The construction of the Hangzhou Bay Bridge was started in 2003 from 14th of November. Its joining date is 26th June 2007. Its use was started from the May 1, 2008. It contains 6 lanes. These are designed for the speed of 62 miles per hour or 100 km per hour. They have more than 100 year life span. It reduced the distance between the Shanghai and Ningbo almost 75 miles. It is thus reduced the traffic on the highway of the Shanghai-Hangzhou-Ningbo and it is convenient and the easy route. Its designing is based on the landscape concept. It was for the first time in the history that the bridge is manufactured on the landscape concept.

It was inspired by the bridge of the Sudi of the west lake in Hangzhou. It takes the environment of the water from Hangzhou Bay and the drivers of the psychological activities and the passengers are also under consideration. The qualified and the best designers decided the location, appearance and the view of bridge. Bridge has resemblance with the vigorous, dynamic and beautiful “S” shape.

If you view from side, you will see that it has two large channels that are protruding in the north and south, from this passage ships can pass. It is also the passage of Qiantang River Tide. It makes the deck to be look undulating in the lively way. The rails of bridge have the colors of rainbow i.e. violet, indigo, blue, green, yellow, orange and red. Each color covers the distance of about 3 miles or 5 km.

There is also a sightseeing place almost 18 m away from the bank of south channel; this platform is called as Land between the sea and the sky. During the manufacturing of the bridge it was used as home or base for the workers of the offshore. Over the sea it is one and only zone of sightseeing in the whole world. It is almost 12,000 sq meters large. It is made up of the steel and has the height of 24 meters. It has resemblance with the eagle that shows the wings spreading. It contains six floors. The first and the second are reserved for the parking. The third floor is the main area for the outdoor view.

There are also multi-media theaters, museum and the indoor cafes. The fourth floor has the restaurants and the shops. The fifth floor has the 5-star hotel that is equipped with banquet hall and the meeting room. Sixth floor is reserved for the staff.
